Recovery - Day 2

The second day of recovery got increasingly better as the day went on. The morning was rough but I think that's because we were all exhausted and surviving (barely) off of 3-4 hours of sleep over the past 24 hours.

Ryder was still groggy in the morning but after he took a little nap and we were actually able to get some liquids into his tummy (apart from the IV) he was starting to become "Ryder" again - slowly yet surely.  Ryder's swelling had gone down, he wasn't coughing up nearly as much blood and also expressed some interest in playing with toys. He was giving out hugs and was even standing up in his hospital bed! The cafeteria made shakes for Ryder and after a couple of syringe-fuls, Ryder was ready to explore some other parts of the hospital. We had to await doctor approval to leave our area but by noon we were cruising floors 1 and 2.
Starting to play with toys.
Standing up, getting his energy back!
Some love for Super Leo and Chester.
He loves giving warm hugs.
Hanging with Grandma.
Time to blow this joint and check out floors 1 & 2!
Can you tell he's excited?
Floor 2 had this awesome virtual aquarium!  We even got to talk to Crush!
Saying hi to CHOCO the bear on floor 1.
Later that day, we went outside.  It was good to feel the sun and see some trees. We also let mom defrost, but then went right back inside because daddy was melting.
Ryder took a nice long, needed nap in mum-mums lap that afternoon. It gave mommy and daddy some time to grab some food.
We had a few visitors throughout the day.  Mrs. Syliva.
Uncle John.
Uncle Thomas.
That night CHOC was having family night. It was a very cool event and so neat to know that they offer such fun gatherings for all of those children and families at CHOC. A huge thank you to all of those volunteers who provided the games, crafts, music, face paintings, goodie bags and great food!
The nurses at CHOC were incredible! Nurse Kelly and assistant nurse Sarina (how cool is that - same name as my mommy?!) were fabulous! Nurse Kelly was one of the best nurses we've had at CHOC and we were so grateful for those 2 days of getting to know her! We were sad to say goodbye on Tuesday night but are planning to visit with her, outside of CHOC, very soon.
Saying goodbye to nurse Kelly.
Sarina + Serina
We ended day 2 of recovery cruising the floors again. Night 2 was a better night of sleep but it was still a LONG night.  Can we go home yet? Hopefully tomorrow!
